The monthly Sanctuary Series at High St. United Methodist Church, 230 E. High St., continues April 2 at 3:00 PM with a concert by the Live Wire Ensemble of the Springfield Youth Symphony. The performance is offered without admission; however, a free-will offered will be taken to help to continue support for the on-going series. A reception to meet the artist will be held in The Commons following the concert.
Live Wire, now in its 10th season, is a society of chamber musicians sponsored by Security National Bank and run as a part of the Springfield Symphony Youth Orchestras. Participants are selected from the Springfield Youth Symphony, and they rehearse each Monday before their full ensemble’s rehearsal. Many of the students in these groups serve as principals, or heads, of their section, but some also have the opportunity to include all of the percussionists and all of the clarinetists in their group.
Each year the exact makeup of the Live Wire ensembles varies. This year, many young musicians were interested and available. Consequently, five vastly different groups were created.
The students have performed throughout the community: at meetings, before Springfield Symphony Orchestra concerts, at recognition dinners, fundraisers, and the upcoming Kiwanis Pancake Breakfast.
