Tigers Earn First Win of 2017 Over OAC Foe Otterbein

Wittenberg jumped out to a 6-3 lead in the second quarter before the Cardinals came roaring back to tie the game at 7-7 halfway through the third quarter.

Reigning NCAC Player of the Week Noah Moderwell netted four more goals for the Tigers on Saturday afternoon, as the freshman has now recorded seven goals and nine points in his first two collegiate games.

Eight of the Tigers 12 goals on Saturday came off of assists, as Moderwell paced the Tigers with two.

GAME BREAKDOWN
The Cardinals took an early 2-0 lead as snow flurries fell in Westerville, Ohio before three unanswered Tiger goals put the Tigers up 3-2.

Otterbein knotted the game back up at 3-3, before Zach Shy scored off of a Creighton Stephens assist to go regain the lead at 4-3.

Moderwell recorded his second and third goal of the day in the second quarter to go up 6-3, as the freshman’s second goal came off of an assist from Austin Brady.

Shy recorded his second goal of Saturday’s non-conference tilt as the Tigers went up on the Cardinals 7-5.

With the game tied at 7-7, the Tigers rattled off another streak of three unanswered goals, capped off by a Jack Strahm goal, to take a 10-7 lead in the fourth quarter.

The Tigers would hold the Cardinals scoreless for nearly ten minutes before Otterbein scored their eighth and final goal in the fourth quarter as Wittenberg won 12-8.

KEY STATS
Nick Gregory earned the win in net for the Tigers, as the senior recorded five saves in his 60 minutes in net.

Joseph Crawford led the Tiger with six ground-balls on Saturday, as the Tigers picked up 43 as a team to Otterbein’s 26.

As a team, the Tigers outshot the Cardinals 54-30, as Shy paced the Tigers with seven shots on goal.
