Deuteronomy 8:18
“But thou shalt remember the LORD thy God: for [it is] he that giveth thee power to get wealth, that he may establish his covenant which he sware unto thy fathers, as [it is] this day.”
Why have we transitioned from a nation under God to a nation snubbing God?
The above passage was given after a stern warning to remember the One that enables us to prosperity. Has America forgotten the One that blessed? I think the evidence is all around us. We have kicked God from our classrooms now they are filled with violence, the television and silver screen are displaying fatherhood and men in general as buffoons; we have taken steps as a nation that are resulting in the destruction of the greatest nation on earth. God is no longer welcome.
Our citizenry has become a hodgepodge of natural born, naturalized immigrants and illegal immigrants all with equal ability to ask, “What can this country do for me?”
Our fi rst President George Washington would turn over in his grave at the state of the state today. He boldly proclaimed “It is impossible to rightly govern the world without God and Bible.” Why would such a powerful, educated, and respected man make such a reference? Because in his experience and education He understood authority and the fact that all authority and power is delegated; and, since this is the case, authority and power must be received from One in the highest or higher position. An educated person would conclude this power and authority is from God Himself. President Washington’s statement “Make sure you are doing what God wants you to do–then do it with all your strength.” would not be welcomed in today’s congress. In our more than 200 years as a nation, this country has been abundantly blessed. The United States of America has sent food, money, and our even boys to the four corners of the world. However, the past 50 years, especially since the nation-dividing Viet Nam Confl ict, we have witnessed a tragic turn in our country. For the first time in our nation’s history we became silent witnesses to our credit downgrade. Respect is no longer the hallmark for our leadership, products, military, and dollars.
Why? Simple… America Bless God! Going Forward David M. Reeves, Ph.D. America has forgotten God. We no longer subscribe to the truth that God gave us the power to create wealth. We are more interested in what we can get than what we can give! Our government believes we are here to serve it instead of it being here to serve us! Everything is turned around and right has become wrong…wrong is now right! It is time to return to God in all that we do…He is our only hope…He is our only light…He is the only way.
