City of Springfield Releases Brochure, Job Posting for City Manager Position

The City of Springfield is now accepting resumes and applications for the position of City Manager. City officials posted the opening and released a recruitment brochure for the position today, following the recent announcement of current City Manager Jim Bodenmiller’s plans to retire effective January 31, 2019. Bodenmiller will be retiring after 10 years as city manager and more than three decades in Springfield city administration.

City officials said they are accepting both internal and external applications.  “Springfield has seen more than $400 million in downtown investment since 2010, along with significant job growth, and we want to continue this momentum. The next City Manager will take over at a time when a lot of really good things are happening in our community, but there also some challenges to address,” said Springfield Mayor Warren Copeland. “Some of those challenges include housing solutions, continuing our street paving program, and advancing quality of life issues among our many neighborhoods.”

Candidates must have a Bachelor’s Degree in political science, business management, or a related field.
A Master’s Degree in Public Administration is preferred, along with eight to ten years significant management experience, at least three of which should be as a City Manager, Assistant City Manager, or the equivalent in government management experience.

Candidates are encouraged to apply by Sept. 28, 2018. The position announcement and a recruitment
brochure are available on the city’s website at www.springfieldohio.gov.
