There will be a grand opening of The Community Gardens affordable senior housing community at 11:00 AM, November 13, 2018 at the corner of Burnett Road and East High Street. The Community Gardens offers 50 two-bedroom apartments, each with an attached garage, and was modeled after the “pocket neighborhood” concept with a pedestrian focus. Interconnected walking paths and front porches encourage resident interaction. Major partners include the Ohio Housing Finance Agency, Ohio Capital Corporation for Housing, the Federal Home Loan Bank of Cincinnati, City of Springfield, NeighborWorks America, River Hills Bank, and HUD.
“This is a place where our residents can have the peace of mind of living in a home where they can ‘age in place’ should their mobility needs change.” Says Tina Koumoutsos, NHP Executive Director. Each unit is fully accessible with a walk-in shower, wide doorways, and zero steps. “We wanted to ensure that the units would accommodate the needs of our residents without an institutional feel – and we succeeded!” said Ian Maute, Co-developer with Buckeye Community Hope Foundation.
After a presentation by the major partners of the project, tours will be available and light refreshments served.
