Clark State VP Named President of Edmonds Community College

Dr. Amit Singh, provost and senior vice president of Clark State Community College, has accepted the position as president of Edmonds Community College in Lynnwood, Washington.

Edmonds Community College’s extensive search for a new president began in the summer of 2017. At a special meeting held March 2, the Edmonds Community College Board of Trustees voted to offer Singh the role of the next president. He will begin on June 25 of this year and succeed former Edmonds President Jean Hernandez who retired on December 31, 2017.

“We’re excited to welcome Dr. Singh to Edmonds Community College,” said Diana Clay, chair of Edmonds Community College Board of Trustees. “With his extensive background in higher education, proven leadership and dedication to student success, Dr. Singh embodies the qualities and characteristics that we hoped to find in our search. We’re looking forward to working with him to further our mission of teaching, learning and community.”

Singh joined Clark State from Cuyahoga Community College’s western campus in Parma, Ohio, where he was dean of academic affairs and chief academic officer.

“I am very thankful to Clark State for the opportunity to work here. My experience has been invaluable and prepared me well for my next position,” said Singh. “I am indebted to the Board of Trustees and President Blondin for supporting me and guiding me as we embarked upon a new strategic plan. I have really enjoyed working with our faculty and staff who care so much for our students. This journey has been simply great.”

Clark State President Dr. Jo Alice Blondin said Singh is a dynamic and visionary leader. “Dr. Singh exemplifies the values of Clark State,” she said. “He works tirelessly to ensure that our students are successful. Since coming to Clark State three years ago, Dr. Singh’s impact on students can be seen throughout the campus.”

Blondin said Singh created a robust assessment of student learning outcomes processes, implemented program review for all disciplines, championed a new advising model, collaborated on a more accurate and student-friendly testing modules for placement and worked to redesign our developmental education program, all in collaboration and cooperation with the deans and faculty he leads.

“Dr. Singh is a true partner in academic success and debunks the myth that there are ‘silos’ in higher education,” she said. “He works side-by-side with all vice presidents to ensure that student success is our priority, and he is focused on continuous improvement to ensure that we always provide students with the highest quality learning and services.”

Earlier in his career, Singh served as the dean of the business and computer science division at Montgomery County Community College in Blue Bell, Pennsylvania, and as the assistant dean of the business and social science division at Darton College in Albany, Georgia. Prior to joining academia, he worked as an investment analyst with a brokerage firm and as a seniorfinancial analyst at a corporate governance consulting firm. He also worked as the chief executive officer of a start-up company, all in Atlanta. Singh holds four graduate degrees including a PhD in economics, MS in finance and a MBA and MA in economics.

“It’s a once in a lifetime opportunity to lead a great college like Edmonds Community College, and I am very much looking forward to joining the Edmonds family in June and continuing the work of students’ access, success and completion,” said Singh. “I am extremely thankful to the Board of Trustees for selecting me to lead this fine institution, and I am also thankful to the students, faculty, staff and the community members for their support.”
