“Live Wire” Ensembles In Concert April 18 for Sanctuary Series

The monthly Sanctuary Series at High St. United Methodist Church, 230 E. High St., continues April 18 at 3:00 PM with a concert by the Live Wire Ensemble of the Springfield Youth Symphony.  The performance is offered without admission; however, a free-will offering will be taken to help to continue support for the on-going series.  A reception to meet the artists will be held in The Commons following the concert.

Live Wire is a chamber music society, sponsored by Security National Bank, featuring a Brass Ensemble, Woodwind Quintet, two String Quartets, and a Percussion Ensemble. This unique performing opportunity for Youth Orchestra members encourages artistic excellence and personal achievement through the vehicle of chamber music.

Participants are chosen by audition and other criteria, and perform in a wide variety of community settings. Live Wire ensembles receive professional coaching from members of the Springfield Symphony Orchestra.

Among the musical selections scheduled for the April 18 program are works by Juan Morel Campos and Johann Strauss II, presented by the Brass Quintet and Debussy’s “Reverie” and Herman Stein’s “Sour Suite,” presented by the Woodwind Quintet.  Also on the program will be “Allegro con brio” from Beethoven’s String Quartet in F Major, Op. 18, No 1, and pieces by Kuhlau, Joplin, and Bethena, to be performed by a Clarinet Trio.
