On Thursday night, May 18th, New Carlisle resident, Ted Teach will be the guest speaker at the WACO Aviation Lecture Series. Ted was awarded the 2016 Antique Grand Champion award at the Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA) Air Show in Oshkosh, WI. This annual gathering of aviation enthusiasts is the largest show of its kind in the world. With over 10,000 aircraft and 2,000 show planes, it is a prodigious feat to win such an honor at this prestigious air show. The Ryan ST is the only remaining airplane of its kind. However, this is not the only time this Miami County resident has brought home an EAA award for one of his airplanes. His 1953 Mooney Mite, a 1930 WACO INF and his Pitts N8M have also received awards at Oshkosh. Restorations will be the topic of this lecture; restoration tools will also be available for viewing.
As an inventor with 26 US patents, Ted Teach was an aeronautical engineer by trade with jobs at North American Aviation, Grimes Manufacturing, Blackhorse Tile Co., and most recently Laser-Plane Corporation (now Trimble Navigation) prior to retirement in 1992. While his retirement years have been filled with restoration projects, he also finds time to enjoy motor cycle touring on his Gold Wing.
Parking and admission are free and open to the public. The lecture is scheduled to last one hour with a time for questions to follow. It will be held in the Willis Wing of the WACO Air Museum at 1865 South County Road 25A in Troy, OH. . Donations will be accepted to benefit the WACO Historical Society.
