Fool Tom the Turkey
Fool Tom the Turkey will take place this week, November 10 – 15, at Snyder Park. Tom the Turkey will move to Smith Park in New Carlisle November 17-22. Test your knowledge about wild turkeys during the Tom the Turkey seek and find trivia hunt. Turkeys will be hiding in 5 different locations each week. At each location, Tom the Turkey will have questions to try and fool you. Submit your answers by emailing them to nationaltrail@springfieldohio.gov. Each correct answer counts as an entry into a drawing. The sponsor of this program is Bowman and Landes Turkeys. Thanksgiving Shoe Box Parade Float Entry
Enter the Thanksgiving Shoe Box Parade as a family, business, organization,or individual. Create a float using a shoe box and drop it off at the National Trail Parks and Recreation District Administration Building on November 12 or 13. Your float will be pulled along our road and city backdrop while the parade announcers read its description, just like on your favorite holiday parades. All of the parade floats will be filmed and put together to create a video parade. The parade will be aired on the NTPRD Facebook page on Thanksgiving morning. Rules and regulations are available at www.ntprd.org. The special theme this year is “Favorite Cartoon Characters”. The deadline to enter a shoe box float is November 12. Thanksgiving Shoe Box Parade
A Thanksgiving Shoe Box Parade will take place on Thursday, November 26 at 10:00 am. Tune into the National Trail Parks and Recreation District Facebook pageThanksgiving morning for the first annual Thanksgiving Shoe Box Parade. Local families, businesses, schools, and non profits will be creating floats for the parade. Have the opportunity to vote for your favorite float after the parade airs.
National Take a Hike Day
Celebrate National Take a Hike Day on Tuesday, November 17 by taking a hike at Rebert Pike Nature Park. This free family friendly hike will be held from 4:00 – 5:00 pm and will be exploring the natural trails. Covid-19 safety measures will be in place including a pre hike health assessment and face coverings are required. Registration is required by November 13 and is available online by going to www.ntprd.com.
Trail Tots
Trail Tots is for children ages 3-5, along with a parent or guardian, and will be held on Thursday, November 19 from 10:00 am – 11:00 am at NTPRD. Trail Tots is an outdoor play-based program designed for preschool age children along with a parent or guardian. Explore and learn outdoors and connect with nature with sensory play, science investigations, music and nature walks. This program is limited to one adult companion per registration. Space is limited and face coverings are required. The registration fee is $8 and the deadline is November 16.
Herb Activity Kit
Learn about your favorite herbs and how to grow them with the Herb Activity Kit. Receive two pots of herbs to grow indoors. The fee is $20 and the deadline to register is November 13. For more information call 937-328-7275.
